The beneficial effect of MSCs in processes associated with colic, including endotoxemia, are currently being studied in prestigious universities
Clinical studies in animals demonstrate that MSCs in endotoxemia promote:
• Anti-inflammatory effect: Through paracrine mechanisms, MSCs are able to reduce the devastating effects at an organic level that the inflammatory phase of endotoxemia causes
• Angiogenesis: The MSCs secrete enzymes capable of promoting neovascularization; function which can be especially important in cases of endotoxemia, where alteration of coagulation can cause organic ischemia.
• Antiapoptotic effect: In the development of endotoxemia a high cell death is caused, especially in the gastrointestinal tract cells and lymphocytes. MSCs have the capacity to inhibit this cell death.
